Summer Suppers |
|
By now most of you should have received an invitation to one of the “Summer Suppers” that are happening all over the congregation. In fact, some suppers may already have taken place by the time this newsletter is published. If for any reason you did not receive an invitation, or if you were not able to attend the meeting to which you were invited, please call the church office and we will connect you with a an upcoming gathering.
The purpose of the summer suppers is two-fold. First, to get to know each other better. Some people attend worship Sunday after Sunday, but never really get to know any of the other worshipers. And the second purpose is to begin the process of discovering God’s next dream for us. I think as a congregation we are ready for a new dream. Praying and gathering in conversation is one of the ways in which we can begin to discover this dream.
I hope you take these invitations seriously. This is about the work and future of the whole congregation. I will be praying for these gatherings and I hope you will too.
Group Meeting dates: 8/28—Dorothy’s group—Daytime meeting
If you cannot make your group meeting and wish to go to another, see the above group leaders for time and place information. |

Coming Soon! |
Jason and deMarcoSeptember 25th |
|
CGS is excited to announce the Christian singing duo Jason and deMarco will be performing here September 25th. This promises to be an amazing night for CGS and for the local community. All proceeds from this concert will be given to the Billy deFrank Center.
A little about them: (visit www.jasonanddemarco.com for more) Their autobiographical and controversial, documentary-film, We're All Angels, from director Robert Nunez, currently airs on the SHOWTIME NETWORK where fans are invited to take a behind-the-scenes look at the public and private lives of these rising pop stars, who are gay, spiritual, and in love. The film chronicles the lives of the two singers as they perform all over the country in dance clubs, at pride events, and even in churches. The movie takes a look at how their openness about their sexuality often pits them against evangelical Christianity, while their faith at times meets with resistance from the gay community. As Jason & deMarco prepare to release a new album to appeal to a wider mainstream audience, We're All Angels turns the spotlight on how they integrate their sexuality and spirituality within their relationship and professional careers.
Ticket information: $20 general admission $40 VIP (special seating and reception) Please call the office for more information or to purchase tickets. You may also send a check to the office made out to CGS, noting how many tickets and the address you would like the tickets mailed to.
We are also in need of people to help out on the day of the concert with things like ticket sales and ushering. Please go here to sign up to help out. |
Peace and Justice Forums |
|
With many people travelling and coming and going over the summer, it is difficult to offer a Bible study. Instead I want to offer Peace and Justice Forums after worship. These forums will offer informal, but focused conversations about current events and how we as people of God can respond to the world around us. Feel free to bring contributions and news clips about current events which you wish to discuss or about anything that you feel we need to be more educated about. |
