Sunday MorningsService Leaders Altar Guild, serving in teams of two, prepares the altar and the bread and wine for communion, readers, to read the lessons, liturgical deacons who help pastor during the service with some of the liturgy such as prayers, communion deacons and assistants, who assist in the serving of communion, greeters who joyfully greet all who come through our doors, ushers who assist those needing assistance with bulletins, seating or anything else, tellers and assistants to help count Sunday morning offering. Training is always available for all leaders. Coffee Teams Serves refreshments for fellowship time after worship each Sunday. Each team serves 1 Sunday a month. Nursery/Sunday school We gladly welcome those who feel called to work with our young children, whether as teachers or as helpers. Health and Healing MinistriesStephen Ministry Do you feel called to minister to others in their hurts and struggles? This is a one-to-one lay caring ministry, trained to listen and help. If you are interested in training, please contact the office. Prayer Chain A group of people committed to praying for those who have special requests. If you would like to join the chain, please call the office. Columbarium Establishes relationships between the communities of the living and the deceased through the implementation of walled niches, which are available for sale to store earthly remains of these loved ones after cremation. Memorial Shepherds Brings comfort to memorial/funeral services, plus an opportunity to continue celebrating a life, by providing beautifully prepared receptions for the family and friends. Parish Health Ministry We offer blood pressure screenings and chair massages monthly, and host other seminars and workshops periodically. If you are interested in helping, please join us. We meet the third Monday of the month at 7:30pm. Visiting Group A group of people that visits those in our community needing a home visit, reaching out to those in need. Meets third Tuesday of each month at 6pm. Healing Chapel Located off the Great Hall, and available anytime for personal prayer and devotions. Music MinistryA celebration of musical offerings. New participants are joyfully welcomed. Instrumentalists A group of musicians committed to celebrating with music at the Sunday service. Rehearsals: every Wednesday at 6:30PM Choir Learn and enjoy choral music of all types. An ability to read music is helpful. Rehearsals: every Wednesday at 7:30PM Study, Discussion and other ministriesLydia Dorcas The Lydia-Dorcas ladies make and distribute quilts for various social service organizations. Other service projects include: assemble and send sewing kits to Lutheran World Relief, supply Friends Outside families with gifts and food, bring Christmas potluck gifts for FISH to be distributed to the children of those families, and serve with the Memorial Shepherds for memorial and funeral services. These ladies have work hard and give generously of their time and talents in order to further the work of the church and community. They deserve a hearty THANK YOU for their loving and caring service. Meeting time: 1st Wednesday of the month at 12:30PM The Quilters The group makes quilts to be given to shelters and other special projects. New members and new quilters are always welcome. Meeting time: 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 10:00AM Mission Mouse Club When: Each Friday at 10AM Where: Mission Nursing Center 410 Winchester Blvd. Church Council Elected from the members of CGS, the council oversees the business of the church. Meetings are open to all. Meeting time: 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM Church Library The Library is located off the Great Hall. We have books of all kinds available to check out, from fiction to non-fiction, kids’ and religious materials. If you are interested in helping out in the library labeling or sorting books, contact the office. Newsletter Folders A group that comes in monthly to socialize and to help fold the Good News, our monthly newsletter. Meets 4th Thursday of every month. Education Ministry Learning is seen as a lifelong, moveable intellectual feast that will provide tools for thinking, questioning and understanding. Finance Ministry Oversees the budget and financial plan for the church. Property Ministry Helps plan and coordinate maintenance and special projects at the church. Meeting time: 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:00PM Green Thumbs Works to help beautify the grounds of the church, by planting, weeding, pruning. OF’s A group of men who help out with routine facility maintenance and small projects. Meets Tuesday mornings at 8:30 am for coffee and maintenance. Social Action Ministry Brings social justice issues to the attention of the congregation. Shelter Cooking is the 3rd Saturday of each month, meets at 4:30PM Cooks and serves meals for a local shelter. Ingathering of food and other necessities for FISH, the Health Trust and the Second Harvest Food Bank on a regular basis. Stewardship Ministry Coordinates stewardship program to encourage good use of our time, talents and resources. Worship & Music Ministry The group helps develop, plan and evaluate the worship services. Meeting time: 1st Wednesday of each month at 5:00PM Natural Church Development NCD is a process we use to help us identify our congregation’s strengths and weaknesses, in order to prioritize actions that will foster our growth in service, in spirit and in numbers.
