Every day I am in the office, I can hardly wait to take a break and go out into the garden to check on the butterfly action. Sometimes there are only a few caterpillars chomping on the milkweed, other days there might be a flurry of butterflies dancing in the air and landing. One day, Christina watched as a butterfly rested on Comfort’s arm. This week the stakes are up! There are several cocoons going through the process of metamorphosis right before our very eyes! I have read that there are more Monarchs in this area this year than in the past ten. Their presence offers hope in a time of climate change when so many plants, insects, and animals are at risk. This time of year, as we go through the four weeks of Advent up to the birth of the Christ Child, I watch the butterflies and am reminded that the transformation occurring as these fuzzy caterpillars emerge as winged butterflies is a process that requires both waiting and watching. I invite you, as we delve into the Advent season to take time each day to slow down from the hurry of the holiday season and to think of Mary, now large with child, and remember that the child growing in her womb will be here soon, the Christ Child will be born humbly yet capable of changing us all radically. As we move through the following days, I send you prayers for any healing you might need and a sense of peace in a busy time. And, by the way, I just might like to take pictures of everything that intrigues me. Please enjoy the photos as well.
